Marketing — Social Media + Audience Development Coordinator

CultureMap Texas is looking for a Social Media and Audience Development Coordinator. This individual will play a critical role in managing and growing the social media presence of all CultureMap accounts. They will be responsible for engaging our social media followers, planning the paid and editorial content calendar, covering major live events, and monitoring performance and trends to optimize strategy across all platforms. This person is also responsible for collaborating with the editorial, sales and marketing departments to support their respective goals while ensuring consistency in voice and a focus on creating an engaged social community. The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a passion for social media and can multitask like a boss. Digital media experience is a big plus.


  • Leads organic and paid social media strategy for all of CultureMap’s social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin
  • Develop strategies for acquiring, retaining, and growing social audiences to aid in revenue growth
  • Create marketing programs for audience development and email acquisition
  • Develop strategic marketing partnerships with community, cultural and nonprofit organizations
  • Manage marketing programs for audience development and email acquisition
  • Hire and manage interns
  • Maintain proficiency and knowledge in latest social media technologies and best practices (i.e. new tools, algorithm changes, platform enhancements)
  • Other duties as necessary

Editorial — Network Assistant Editor

The ideal candidate has at least two years of experience as a staff writer or editor and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Excellent writing, editing, organizational, and communication skills are required. Must be technical and social media savvy, as CultureMap is a digital-only media company. You will be working in a custom CMS and as part of a larger digital team across the state of Texas.

CultureMap delivers daily lifestyle content in the categories of restaurants and bars, real estate, society, arts, entertainment, fashion and beauty, home and design, travel, and city life. Candidates should be plugged into these topics, have a keen eye for news, and have a desire to be part of a growing media brand. Candidates can be based in Austin, Dallas, or Houston.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work with CultureMap’s Texas-wide editorial team to assist in day-to-day editorial needs, including writing, proofreading, and other content management tasks
  • Write stories for publication in one or multiple markets
  • Identify opportunities to leverage content across site network
  • Prepare stories for publication (including loading, formatting, editing, and reviewing submissions)
  • Proofread all articles for typos, grammatical errors, and general style
  • Manage homepage and daily email creation as needed
  • Assist with special editorial programs
  • Assist in editorial social media strategy across platforms
  • Assist in administrative tasks, including onboarding writers and monthly invoice approvals
  • Serve as on-call editor as needed

Sales — Houston 

CultureMap is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Advertising Sales Executive to drive sales revenue for CultureMap and Gow Media in Houston. The Account Executive will be responsible for helping grow their clients’ business through customized solutions utilizing a combination of CultureMap, Gow Media, and third-party products. The ideal candidate will have the ability to, or already holds, deep VP- and CMO-level relationships with local companies, brands, and agencies.

Key Account Executive Responsibilities

  • Create new leads by cold calling and scheduling face-to-face meetings
  • Manage and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets
  • Cultivate and develop high-level client relationships and leverage a highly consultative approach within aligned territory
  • Develop creative campaigns and proposals to help clients achieve their business and marketing goals
  • Manage and maintain relationships throughout the entire sales cycle, from initial contact through execution of the client campaign
  • Provide regular updates to management on sales pipeline and partnerships
  • Serve as an industry expert in digital advertising

Requirements, Experience, and Attributes of Ideal Candidates

  • 2+ years outside sales experience, preferably in a local/regional media environment
  • Proven success prospecting/cold-calling local and regional accounts
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player
  • Self-starter with a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality
  • Consultative sales style with strong analytical skills and ability to research problems and provide strategic solutions
  • Ability to work with the internal teams to solve problems and deliver results for clients
  • Effective negotiation skills
  • Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, well versed in Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to sell multiple products and present big ideas/complex packages
