Lt. Col. Oliver North, freshly appointed to his new role as president of the National Rifle Association, is coming to Dallas-Fort Worth over the Memorial Day weekend, where he'll make an appearance at the Fellowship Church in Grapevine.

According to a release, North will be a guest speaker at a special Memorial Day event on Sunday, May 27.

Here is where you thank the baby Jesus you live in Texas, because this is surely the only place such a thing would happen.

The release says that North, a former U.S. Marine Corps officer, is uniquely qualified to speak to the heroic sacrifice made by countless men and women for the freedom of our nation.

North will join Fellowship's colorful pastor Ed Young at both Sunday experiences at 9:30 and 11 am. He will also sign books after each Sunday service.

"Oliver North stands as a beacon of strength, honor, and the foundation on which this country was built," says Young in a release. "We're thrilled to welcome this American hero to our church!"

Dallas was the recent host of the NRA convention and made international news when Ellen's, a restaurant in Dallas' West End, printed a gun reform message on its receipts. The restaurant weathered a backlash from NRA members before going on to make a $15,000 donation to Moms Demand Action.

Maybe Ollie can hit Ellen's after services; the restaurant is known for its killer brunch.

Fellowship is the evangelical mega-church with satellites at eight locations throughout Dallas/Fort Worth, including Southlake, Prosper, Hawkins, Grapevine, Dallas, and Fort Worth, plus two spots in Florida: Miami and North Port.

The event is free and open to the entire community. Times and locations for Fellowship Church can be seen on the church’s website.

Young has earned notoriety as author of books such as Sexperiment, whose publication he and his wife Lisa celebrated with a 24-hour "bed-in" on the roof of Fellowship Church. He also encouraged the married members of his congregation to have sex every day for one week as a way to strengthen the traditional family.
