Modern Kids Summer Flicks will feature delightful and innovative films, including a selective slate of the best shorts from the Children's Film Festival Seattle 2019, and the Spanish-language program from the New York International Children's Film Festival. As a bonus, guests can visit the galleries at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, including the special exhibitions "Disappearing-California, c. 1970: Bas Jan Ader, Chris Burden, Jack Goldstein and David Park: A Retrospective," which ends Sunday, August 11.

Magnolia at the Modern: Them That Follow
Inside a snake-handling church deep in Appalachia, a forbidden relationship forces a pastor's daughter to confront her community's deadly tradition. The film, which stars Kaitlyn Dever, Walton Goggins, and newly minted Oscar winner Olivia Colman, will screen six times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Texas Live! First Anniversary Celebration
Texas Live! in Arlington will celebrate its first birthday with a three-day birthday bash. The event, going on through Sunday, will feature several special guests, a surprise announcement, cash giveaways, live music from the Emerald City Band, Steve Helms, TX Red Dirt Roads, and Dr Pepper Kidd’s Day 2019. And with 10 venues under one roof, there’s a different party happening just around the corner.
Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents Anime at the Modern
Anime at the Modern celebrates the Japanese anime genre, films that are visually stunning, richly imaginative, and poetic in their storytelling. This summer's films are all critically acclaimed award winners, including Night Is Short, Walk On Girl, Modest Heroes, Spirited Away, and Mirai. Screenings will take place on both Friday and Saturday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Stolen Shakespeare Guild presents Anything Goes
Stolen Shakespeare Guild presents Anything Goes. The musical, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, features madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy #13, “Moonface” Martin, aid Billy in his quest to win Hope. The musical features songs like as "Anything Goes," "You're the Top," and "I Get a Kick Out of You." The production will run at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center through August 25.
Theatre Arlington presents Brighton Beach Memoirs
Dreaming of baseball and girls, Eugene must cope with the mundane existence of his family life in Brooklyn: formidable mother, overworked father, and his worldly older brother Stanley. Throw into the mix his widowed Aunt Blanche and her two young (but rapidly aging) daughters, and you have a recipe for hilarity, served up Neil Simon-style. The production will run at Theatre Arlington through August 31.

Globe Life Park presents All Star Craft Beer, Wine & Cocktail Festival
While the Rangers are away, Globe Life Park will present the inaugural All Star Craft Beer, Wine & Cocktail Festival. The event, which will have an afternoon session and an evening session, will feature hundreds of craft beer, wine, and cocktail brands from around the world, plus live music, DJs, outdoor games, giveaways, product samples, food vendors, free parking, and more. Guests will get a keepsake glass, a voucher for two tickets to a 2019 Rangers game at Globe Life Park, and a chance to get a professional photo in the Rangers dugout.
Panther Island Pavilion presents Rockin’ the River
Rockin’ the River features five bands playing back-to-back sets throughout the day on the Coors Light Waterfront Stage at Panther Island Pavilion, finishing with a final band on the after-party stage before a fireworks display. There will also be food and beverages available for purchase, as well as tube and watersport rentals. Zac Wilkerson will headline the band lineup this week, which wraps up the series for the summer.

Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents "Disappearing-California, c. 1970: Bas Jan Ader, Chris Burden, Jack Goldstein" closing day
Sunday is the final day to view "Disappearing-California, c. 1970: Bas Jan Ader, Chris Burden, Jack Goldstein," which features three artists with a common interest in themes of disappearance and self-effacement that manifested in works that were daring and often dangerous. Responding to the social and political circumstances of their time and the nascent field of feminist art, the artists used "disappearing" as a response to the anxiety of the 1970s.
Panther Island Pavilion presents Sunday Funday
Sunday Funday at Panther Island Pavilion is a day of relaxation and fun in the sun. Tubes and pedal boats are available to rent along with kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and canoes from Backwoods Paddlesports. Visitors can enjoy cold beer, music, friends, food trucks, and floating on the Trinity River.
Lone Star Film Festival presents Sunday Cinema Series: The Long, Hot Summer
Everyone is feeling the effects of the heat in August, so it's only appropriate that the latest in Lone Star Film Festival's Sunday Cinema Series is 1958's The Long, Hot Summer. The classic film stars Paul Newman as con man Ben Quick, his eventual wife Joanne Woodward, and Orson Welles. The film will screen at Four Day Weekend Theater. (Correction: This week's screening will be The Manchurian Candidate. The Long Hot Summer will screen on August 25.)
