There's a newly opened restaurant in Irving serving Mexican food and weekend brunch, along with tequilas and mezcal.
Called Mesa Mezcal, it's a hotel restaurant at the also newly opened Westin Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas, at 400 West Las Colinas Blvd., where it is serving what a release calls a thoughtfully crafted menu featuring bold, classic Mexican flavors.
Open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Mesa Mezcal pulls from various regions of Mexico to create unique, flavorful dishes while incorporating modern techniques and trends to create a new twist on Mexican cuisine.
For breakfast, there is a breakfast bowl with quinoa and barley hash, sweet potato, tortilla, avocado, and fried egg; and a Mexican version of an avocado toast called an avocado huarache, with a grilled masa flatbread, avocado, cherry tomatoes, tomatillos, chili lime toast, and queso fresco.
Lunch options include the Oaxacan sandwich with a chorizo patty, charred pineapple, pepper jack cheese, watercress, and a fried egg on a brioche bun; and a pulled ancho chicken wrap with smashed avocado, black beans, corn, pickled jalapeños, pickled radish, and watercress.
At dinner, there's a bone-in ribeye with elote, jalapeño cilantro butter, and nopales; and a Veracruz whole fish with toasted quinoa, tomatoes, leeks, and Kalamata and picholine olives.
Chef is Germain Haro, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America who has worked at Marriott properties in Hawaii, Baltimore, Bethesda, and Washington, D.C.
"I truly look forward to providing guests with a unique twist on Modern Mexican cuisine," Haro says in a statement. "Each dish on our menu was carefully crafted with a focus on high quality ingredients and bold flavors."
The beverage program stars craft cocktails, local brews, and a substantial wine list. The program also boasts an extensive tequila program, hence the restaurants namesake, Mezcal. The menu features tequila flights ranging from $30 to $100, as well as over 50 different types of mezcals and tequilas available for tastings.
A typical cocktail is the Agave Smash, a blend of tequila and mezcal, shaken with fresh lemon, grapefruit, and mint.
Mesa Mezcal will offer weekend brunch from 10:30 am to 3 pm with a menu that includes migas, brunch enchilada stack, and pulled pork hash, with classic brunch cocktails such as a Mesa mimosa and Bloody Mary.
The Westin Irving Convention Center is next to the Irving Convention Center and Toyota Music Factory, and marks the third piece of the puzzle for Irving's destination district. The hotel is owned through a public-private partnership between the city of Irving and developer Garfield Public/Private LLC.
