The newest Whataburger is open, and it has landed at a location that will wow diners from around the world: Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) Airport.
According to a release, the restaurant opened on July 2 at Terminal E - Satellite, located at the southern-most tip of the airport. It's open from 6 am until approximately 10 pm, or 30 minutes before the last flight.
The menu includes breakfast from 6 to 11 am with taquitos and Whataburger's famed Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. Burgers, French fries, onion rings, chicken strips, and shakes can be had all day.
The airport location will accommodate customizing, such as substituting mustard or mayo; removing toppings; adding sauces, grilled veggies, cheese, or any other unique pairings — just as diners can do at any regular location. Sometimes eateries at the airport can be inflexible. Not Whataburger, though.
Franchisee is Gilbert Aranza, who says in a statement that Whataburger can't wait to share its delicious food with air travelers from around the world, "including those who may be trying our famous Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits for the first time."
DFW Airport VP Ken Buchanan says they've been fielding inquiries about Whataburger for months.
"DFW has made some big investments in the customer experience, including new concessions that emphasize our local favorites," Buchanan says. "We're happy to welcome Whataburger and give our visitors the chance to see why the Texas favorite has such a loyal following."
The addition of the Whataburger is the latest in a series of improvements to Terminal E, which is anticipating more than 200,000 travelers passing through the airport daily, with 15 new gates that will host 100 more flights per day.
The terminal is hosting regional flights for American Eagle, departing from satellite gates E22-E30.
American executed a multimillion-dollar renovation of the satellite, which also included adding a Dickey's Barbecue Pit.
This will be the second Dallas airport with a Whataburger: There's also a location at Dallas Love Field, where it's the busiest restaurant at that airport.
Whataburger has also added a new item to its "All-Time Favorite" menu: the Mushroom Swiss Burger. It features two patties, au jus sauce, two slices of Swiss cheese, two layers of grilled mushrooms, on a toasted five-inch bun.
Whataburger fanatics may already know that the Mushroom Swiss was originally a limited-edition item that debuted in 2018.
All-Time Favorites are a collection of former limited-edition items whose lifespan the all-powerful Whataburger has extended. The Mushroom Swiss burger joins other All-Time Favorites that include the Patty Melt and the Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich.
