Match Point Coffee to serve up espresso on West 7th Fort Worth
There's a new coffee shop coming to Fort Worth, serving up a tennis theme alongside freshly brewed espresso. Called Match Point Coffee, it's opening at 3618 W. 7th St., in a former dental office.
They'll host a soft opening on September 28, and their commuter- and worker-friendly hours will be weekdays 6:30 am-5 pm, and 7 am-3 pm on weekends — grand opening still to come.
Match Point Coffee is a dream come true for owner Scott Keenan, a former college tennis player and media executive who spent 35 caffeine-fueled years in the news business. The Fort Worth resident hatched the unique concept with his longtime friend Kristian Willems, a coffee aficionado from Down Under.
For years, the pair went coffee shop hopping on Saturday mornings, and they started to imagine what they’d do with a place of their own.
“Australians are insane about their coffee,” Keenan says. “It was always like a fantasy to open a coffee shop.”
Keenan and Willems added a third, silent partner to the biz, and the fantasy became a reality when they signed the lease in January 2024. Keenan says the landlord had been leaning toward another dental practice, but the pitch for local coffee shop won out.
The shopping center at 7th and Montgomery is already home to eclectic businesses like West 7th Wool and Monkey & Dog Books.
"When I saw the little ‘For Rent’ sign pop up, I thought it would be the perfect location," Keenan says.
They've given the space a marvelous makeover, using warm woods, brick, tile, and natural stone, with accents of neon to accommodate a bright, upbeat vibe with a green and white color palette, including a classic green-and-white striped window awning. With the national champion tennis team at Texas Christian University just a few miles away, they also have a special section dedicated to the Horned Frogs.
The 1,400-square foot space combines many of Keenan’s interests and also includes a special perk: a podcast studio with production services.
“I left the media world, but I wanted to keep my toe in it,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of interest in people wanting to rent this podcast space.”

Another of Keenan’s passions is philanthropy, and he said Match Point Coffee will donate 10 percent of their monthly proceeds to local nonprofits on a rotating basis. North Hi Mount Elementary is the first beneficiary.
“That was seriously important to us to give back and to really be part of this neighborhood and community,” Keenan says.
But this isn’t just your typical, tennis-loving, podcast-recording, charitable entity, they are also serious about their coffee.
Keenan enrolled in the Texas Coffee School and is sourcing his beans from Cuvée Coffee roasters in Austin. They will sell two blends: Colombian and Ethiopian.
“We are all about making great coffee consistently, and we are nutty about everything that we do," he says. "It starts with weighing the coffee and training every barista exactly the same. The coffee you’ll get in the morning is the same quality you will have at 3 in afternoon.”
The menu offers espressos, lattes, cappuccinos and macchiatos, plus a traditional drip, cold brew, and a single origin pour over. Other beverages include tea and hot chocolate. Food offerings will include croissants, gluten-free muffins, and breakfast tacos.
“We wanted to be more than just a coffee shop,” Keenan says.
