The string quintet Sybarite5, comprised of Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violins; Angela Pickett, viola; Laura Metcalf, cello; and Louis Levitt, bass, has taken audiences by storm across the country, changing the perception of chamber music, with an eclectic repertoire from Mozart to Radiohead. In the 2015–2016 season, the group was seen in performances and residencies across the country including Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concerts, Ravinia Festival, Pennsylvania State University, Bryant Park, and Clemson University. A feature of the group’s season was their program Look Back/Move Forward, inspired by the suites of J.S. Bach. Sybarite5 was selected for the prestigious 2015–2016 Mid Atlantic Arts Tour funded by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and in spring 2015, the quintet gave the world premiere of the first concerto for string quintet and orchestra—entitled BEATBOX—written by the acclaimed American composer Dan Visconti.
