Sounds Modern: Women Musicking Women

eventdetail

Sounds Modern celebrates the Modern's "Women Painting Women" exhibition with a program of works in which women composers explore deeply personal connections. Inspired by events from real life - travel itineraries, comic strips, mirrors, a birthday, a moment of suppressed fury, an inward struggle to process grief, a young student’s trauma - each composer creates an imaginative, emotional, and deeply personal response.

The concert of chamber music for voices, woodwinds, strings, and electronics will feature composers Kate Soper, Cathy Berberian, Shelley Washington, Elizabeth Brown, Angélica Negrón, Sky Macklay, and Kaija Saariaho.

Sarah Ruth Alexander, Brittney Balkcom, Kathleen Crabtree, Mia Detwiler, Morgan Horning, Andrew May, Elizabeth McNutt, Kourtney Newton, and Alex Ravitz will perform the works.
