Officials host meeting on roadway project in southeast Fort Worth
Transportation officials are hosting a community meeting to provide an update on the Southeast Connector Project, a road construction project designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in Tarrant County.
The project will widen sections of I-20 and I-820, adding new lanes and redoing interchanges.
The project, which was proposed in 2018 and began last year, is part of an initiative called Texas Clear Lanes to address traffic congestion and "chokepoints" across Texas and is projected to be completed by 2028.
According to a release, the meeting will focus on the Loop 820 segment, providing an opportunity for residents to learn more about the project and provide feedback.
It'll take place on June 6 at 5 pm at Good Shepherd Temple of Praise, 5625 Good Shepherd Way, in southeast Fort Worth.
The Southeast Connector Project will widen about 16 miles of I-20 and I-820 running through Fort Worth and Arlington.
They'll expand I-20 to 10 lanes between Forest Hills Drive to Park Springs Boulevard; expand I-820 to eight lanes between I-20 and Brentwood Stair Lane; and add new lanes on US 287 from Bishop Street to Sublett Road. It's a transformation from the six-lane highway and loop that previously made up I-820. A map of the project is here.
The goal is not only to reduce traffic congestion through Tarrant County, but also better connect the east and southeast parts of to central Tarrant County.
The project has ongoing updates and lane closures, which are posted on its closures page.
