The mission of Educational First Steps is to create and support high-quality early learning environments that ignite the minds of children from birth to age five. They do this by transforming existing childcare centers into nationally accredited preschools in a period of 36 months at no cost to the centers or parents.

By securing national accreditation, centers become true preschools, preparing children for kindergarten and beyond and placing them on a path to success.

Donations are always appreciated. By investing in early childhood education, EFS aims to help close achievement gaps for early learners, break cycles of generational poverty for families, and create a brighter and more equitable tomorrow for the children and communities of North Texas.

In addition to donating, volunteers play a vital role in helping further the mission to ensure every child has access to a high-quality early learning environment to provide a strong educational foundation. Here are some are ways you can get involved:

  • Physical improvement project at a partnering center: Lead your team in a beautification project at partner center(s), such as playground restoration, painting, creating a garden, and more.
  • Playground builds: Give children their very own place for outdoor learning and play, which is proven to improve their preschool experiences.
  • Host a supply drive/stuff a backpack: Gather supplies and stuff Educational First Steps backpacks for children at partnering center(s). Click here for the list of needed supplies.

This year, the virtual Munson Lecture Series replaces the former in-person fundraising event. The series features three installments taking place November 10, January 12, and March 31, and includes headlining speakers Emmanuel Acho, John Quinones, and Wendy Mogel.

The annual Early Childhood Education Conference will shift to a virtual platform. It brings together early childhood education professionals and expert trainers from across the nation — typically 700 center directors and teachers across North Texas attend.
