How has the diversity of America been reflected throughout American art history and today? Dive into the topic with experts Lauren Cross and Vicki Meek to learn more about how the current art scene is representing both race and gender, or at times the lack of representation. Experts Talk on the Carter (ETC.) is a new lecture series where thought leaders in various fields turn their eye to works in our collection, helping us see art in new ways through the lens of their own work and passions.

Cross is a local artist and professor in the Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies program at the University of North Texas. She s the founder of the Fort Worth-based arts organization WoCA Projects (Women of Color in the Arts), which highlights the works of women artists of color through exhibitions, film screenings, artist talks and lectures, and community arts education.

Cross will be joined by Meek, a local artist, independent curator, and cultural criticism writer for Dallas Weekly. With over forty years of arts administrative experience, including working as a senior program administrator for a state arts agency, a local arts agency, and running a nonprofit visual arts center, Meek retired in 2016 as the Manager of the South Dallas Cultural Center in Dallas, a center focused on the African-American community.
