The Amy E .Shewbart Foundation was created in 2008 in memory of Linda and Al Pugh's daughter. Amy was a wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend to many. She was a registered nurse who suddenly died at age 30, leaving behind an infant son. Amy was one of the first mothers to donate breast milk to the Mothers' Milk Bank of North Texas. She was a gregarious woman who loved life and had an impact on everyone she met.
The mission of the foundation is to bring health, healing and happiness to infants and children. Some of the projects the foundation has funded are a van purchase for the Mothers' Milk Bank of North Texas, table sponsor for annual MMBNT luncheon, annual donation to Cook Children’s ChildLife Zone and sponsor for Cancer Care Services Celebration of Curing Cancer.
Revenue for the foundation comes from an annual fundraiser called the Beach Bash for Babies and hosted by UNTHSC. Admission includes a barbeque dinner, bar and more for adults. Children are free and have hot dogs and entertainment, provided by UNTHSC medical students. The family evening includes food, live music by Chasing Texas, silent and live auctions, casino action with prizes, children’s area, cruise trip raffle and more. The event has a tropical theme with inside venue for casino and auction, and a large green space outside for eating and dancing as well as a bounce house and lots of room for children to play ball.
