Jazz trombonist Courtenay Dees has made music for over four decades, playing for folks’ pocket change to hitting the heights of the 1940s Big Band era. But along the way, Court’s music has had to drown out the rage of racism, ease the pain of a love taken too soon, and quiet the ghosts of his past. Court has more than his share of unsettled business. Reconciled to retirement in a South Beach tenement, Court’s just marking time. But the past, well, it has a way of catching up to the present.
