Like the work of artist Robyn O’Neil, the music on the program of Sounds Modern’s next concert, Alone within the Herd, explores the solitary struggle of living and dying, the harsh beauty of the natural world, and the herd mentality that so often blinds us to it. Sounds Modern will present dramatic and intense solo works by Chaya Czernowin, Toshio Hosokawa, local composer Andrew May and others. The group will invite audience members to join them in the ultimate mob mentality music composition, "Les Moutons de Panurge" by Frederic Rzewski. Performers will include Elizabeth McNutt, flute; Andrew May and Mia Detwiler, violin; Shannon Wettstein, piano; Alexander Richards, saxophone; Mike Capone, viola; Kourtney Newton, cello; and Jeremiah Stones, bass trombone.
