Preppy SoCal men's shop surfs into West Fort Worth for Texas debut
Californians are moving to Texas in droves, and here come their favorite stores, too. Johnnie-O, a Los Angeles-based retailer of apparel and accessories for men, is opening its first Texas shop in Fort Worth's WestBend complex on March 25.
Founded by John O’Donnell in 2005, the brand calls its style "West Coast prep" and includes men's polos, sport shirts, pullovers, sweaters, vests, jackets, and T-shirts priced from about $40 to $400. There are footwear, accessories, and boys' collections, too.
“We are very excited about our new store and partnership in Fort Worth," says O'Donnell in a release. "The community has always been a big supporter of johnnie-O, and now they will have the opportunity to visit us on a more personal level."
Featuring playful patterns and distinctive details, johnnie-O pieces come in soft, cool, ocean-breezy colors like "spearmint," "avocado," "banana," and the vacation-ready "Maliblu."
"I think we may need to load up on more purple," O'Donnell says of the Fort Worth store, which is about a mile from TCU.
The Horned Frogs are represented, at least, in a "Collegiate" collection of apparel with NCAA school logos. (As are SMU, Baylor, University of Texas, and Texas Tech.)
The brand will celebrate its grand opening March 25 with a meet-and-greet with O’Donnell and Chief Creative Officer Chris Knott from 5-7 pm. Giveaways and sales benefiting The Women’s Center will continue through its opening weekend.
“With their first brick and mortar location, johnnie-O will bring a casual East Coast and Southern California sensibility to Fort Worth," says Terry Montesi, CEO of WestBend's Trademark Property Co, in the release. "This innovative brand exudes cool, and we believe it will be a huge hit in this market and beyond.”
The store is at 1621 River Run, Suite 116, Fort Worth. Regular hours will be 11 am-7 pm Monday through Saturday and 12-5 pm Sunday.
