Hip Pocket Theatre opens its 40th Season with Mr. Weaver’s Backyard Circus Presents: A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain, adapted and directed by Johnny Simons.
On a Summer’s eve, neighbors gather to perform Twain’s classic tale of a modern day factory worker dropped unexpectedly into a land where wizards roam the Earth, knights joust in the cause of honor, and Camelot’s king reigns supreme.
Mr. Weaver was a real figure in Johnny Simons’ life growing up and has appeared as a character in multiple Hip Pocket shows due to his influence on young Johnny. The neighbors gathering together and putting on a show with whatever they managed to collect from their personal inventory is a reflection of Hip Pocket Theatre itself, 40 years later and counting.
