Mañanaland, an art space for emerging and nontraditional artists, will debut a new show titled "I’d Rather Be With You." Named the 2018 Best Art Collective by Fort Worth Weekly, Mañanaland was founded in 2018 by Michelle Kirk, who is a social practice artist. Social practice art aims to create social and political change through collaboration.
"I’d Rather Be With You" will be a group show featuring the work of artists Jeremy Joel (mural and mixed media sculpture), Jana Renee (oil paintings), Alexa Alarcon (immersive installation environment, diorama and functional sculpture), David Veasey (wood burls), Akeen McDaniel (3D origami), Michael Cocanower (lighting installation), Grant Ring (mixed media sculpture) and Fever Dream Interactive (mixed media sculpture). During the event, painter Richard Benavidez will create quick-study portraits as gifts for guests.
Jeremy Joel will debut a mural on the façade of Mañanaland, as well as a sculpture installation. Joel’s distinct style of contemporary folk painting is celebrated as urban street art, as well as recognized in the commodified ranks of the traditional gallery setting.
Jana Renee’s oil paintings are inspired by female empowerment and social media. She uses modern ideas combined with classic oil techniques to get people out of their comfort zones.
Additionally, DJ OttO, a renowned DJ from New Orleans, will travel to Fort Worth to set the tone for this evening of art experiences. He is the aural curator of "I’d Rather Be With You" and will guide guests through the night.
