Fort Worth police uncover chop shop full of merch including mechanical bull
Fort Worth police uncovered a chop shop in northwest Fort Worth stocked with property worth thousands of dollars including stolen cars, rims, and a mechanical bull.
The discovery began on Sunday, January 28 at around midnight when Fort Worth police were flagged down by a resident who reported seeing a man jumping a fence to his neighbor’s house.
While the police detained the man, an Air One helicopter located his brother two blocks away. Both were arrested for outstanding traffic ticket warrants. A stolen vehicle they were driving contained copper wire that AT&T had reported stolen.
Police were able to track down their address and on February 6, after getting a search warrant, Fort Worth PD Metal Theft and Property Crimes Units located what they described as a chop shop in the 2800 block of NW 28th Street that contained:
- numerous vehicles
- two cargo trailers full of stolen tools and construction equipment
- brand new rims and tires
- one car hauler
- a mechanical bull
- and miscellaneous property worth thousands of dollars.
Officers from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department Regional Auto Crimes Unit were called to assist in the identification and recovery of the stolen automobiles.
To date, 15 stolen vehicles including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and ATVs have all been identified.
Several other vehicles were impounded, and are still to be identified. Those have been removed and are believed to be stolen as well.
Victims in these offenses have been linked to the cities of Roanoke, Carrollton, and Fort Worth, along with the Tarrant County College and cases from several states as far away as Mississippi.
This remains an active investigation. Other suspects remain at large.
