One of Fort Worth’s best new restaurants shutters way too soon
Fort Worth’s dining scene has taken a hit with the closure of FW Market + Table. Despite acclaim, including a nomination for Best New Restaurant in the 2016 CultureMap Tastemaker Awards, the restaurant/market in the West 7th district served its last meal on June 20.
FW Market + Table came on the scene in September 2015. It transitioned from Tillman’s Roadhouse into an all-day neighborhood market and restaurant, with a grab-and-go deli case in the front and more formal dining at the back. Celebrity chef and Hell’s Kitchen contestant Kalen Morgenstern was at the helm.
“The light foot traffic just makes a restaurant concept in this area unsustainable,” says owner Todd Fiscus in a release. “We tried two really fantastic concepts that the public really embraced.
“But, unfortunately, like many of the other restaurants in the area, we just couldn’t make it without more regular customer activity.”
Tillman’s Roadhouse was one of several Dallas restaurants that expanded to Fort Worth with the development of the West 7th complex. When its redo was first announced last fall, Fiscus remarked, “Tillman’s has been a journey of sorts of top restaurants, appearances on The Chew, and continued ‘best of’ items in Fort Worth.
“All the while, the dining arena has changed around us. So, it’s time for us to change. ... This is what I want in my neighborhood.”
About the FW Table + Closure he adds, “I love Fort Worth and have been blown away by the kind hearts of our customers and our employees. They are second to none, and I’ll always have a soft spot for our Fort Worth friends.”
