Dinners with fall flavors are starting to appear, and this week offers three. (One is planned for the patio, but cooler temps may move things inside.) There’s also a chance to be educated on whiskey while sipping some of best in the country. By week’s end, get a head start on holiday shopping of the best kind — wine and bites will be provided along the way.
Wednesday, October 23
Houlihan’s Beer Dinner featuring Shannon Brewing Company
The far north Fort Worth restaurant will feature the Keller brewery with a four-course meal. Visit for Shannon’s IPA paired with white bean salad, the Tejas Light paired with stir-fried cauliflower, the Irish Red paired with seared salmon and shrimp Creole, and a dessert drink made with hazelnut chocolate stout. The dinner is $35 per person, plus tax and gratuity, and begins at 7 pm.

Oregon Wine Dinner at Café Modern
A winemaker from Oregon’s Eola Hills Winery will visit to share two kinds of Chardonnay (one is sparkling), Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet paired with a five-course, seafood-centric meal. Menu items include oysters on the half shell with caviar, seared scallops with tropical fruit and avocado salad, halibut with a Thai green curry sauce, seared Ahi tuna with a scallion pancake, and grilled chocolate-cherry bread. The dinner is $115 ($99 for museum members) and begins at 6 pm.
Spirit Flight Night at Niles City Hall Saloon
This cocktail class will cover the origins of American whiskey with a tasting of five specialty spirits and an in-depth overview of the Old Fashioned, including opportunity to build your own. The historic speakeasy, located underground, was once a watering hole for cattle barons, ranchers and even criminal couple Bonnie & Clyde. Tickets start at $75 per person for table seating with a shared charcuterie board, or $100 for front-row at the bar with a personal charcuterie board. The class begins at 7:30 pm.

Grace / Cicada Collaboration Patio Dinner
Executive chef Blaine Staniford is inviting his pal Cody Penton of Cicada into the Grace kitchen to prepare a whopping 10-course dinner. Menu highlights for the fall fete — set to take place under the downtown lights on the patio — include poached mussels, King crab, chicken fried oysters, Texas pheasant and venison, maple dumpling and a sweet potato tart. The patio party is $195 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Arrive at 6:30 pm for a reception with bubbly.
Saturday, October 26
Spooky Sip & Shop in Sundance Square
Stroll and shop Sundance Square stores while tasting wines paired with bites from area restaurants. The $25 ticket (which benefits the Tarrant Area Food Bank) comes with a wine glass and access to discounts throughout the square. The event will run from 1-5 pm and tickets will be $30 the day of the event.
