Acclaimed Dallas chef brings chicken and biscuits to Southlake
Southlake will soon get a taste of chef-driven fried chicken with the opening of Whistle Britches, coming to Southlake Town Square in 2020.
Whistle Britches is a full-service, dine-in restaurant from Dallas chef Omar Flores and co-owner Alec Marshi, which debuted in North Dallas in 2016. It's known for crunchy fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, waffles, craft beer, and cocktails.
One thing kind of cool about his biscuits is that they're square. They're also very flaky and rich.
The restaurant has been featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri. Flores also won Chef of the Year at CultureMap's 2018 Tastemaker Awards.
He opened a second Whistle Britches at the Shops at Willow Bend in Plano in 2018, and just opened a new Mexican concept called Muchacho in Dallas' Preston Center.
This will be his first foray into Tarrant County, and is expected to open in 2020 at 431 Grand Avenue East. He'll join other new concepts at Southlake Town Square that include gourmet cookie bakery Crumbl, Pressed Juicery, and Japanese restaurant Ozeki Ramen & Sushi.
"We pride ourselves in keeping up with the ever-evolving tastes of our guests," says Jason Kasal, VP at Retail Properties of America, Inc., which owns and operates Southlake Town Square. "There is wide appeal with these new restaurants that complements nicely with the destinations already in the Square."
Other openings include Eddie Bauer and Sugarboo & Co. which opened in July; and Warby Parker, 7 for All Mankind, Untuckit, and Casper, the mattress company, which opened in August.
