Boil water advisory ends for residents of North and West Fort Worth

It's now safe to drink the water in north Fort Worth.

UPDATE 2-21-2021: The boil advisory for West Fort Worth has been lifted as of 11:30 am Sunday, February 21, the city announced. In a Facebook post, Fort Worth Water says, "This notice applies only to City of Fort Worth customers. Customers in Aledo, Westover Hills and White Settlement must get with their water provider. Each of these cities will have to get individual clearance from TCEQ to lift the boil water requirement."

The boil water advisory for north Fort Worth has been lifted as of 11:45 am Friday, February 19, the city announced. West Fort Worth must continue to boil.

A notice on the City of Fort Worth website says:

On Feb. 15 and Feb. 16, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the City of Fort Worth public water system, PWS ID 2200012, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of February 19, 2021.

The above information applies to the north Fort Worth area only. Nine cites that buy drinking water from Fort Worth were also included in the boil advisory.

Fort Worth Water says in a February 19 Facebook post, "This notice only applies to Fort Worth Water customers. If you live in a surrounding city, you must seek direction from your utility on when your notice is lifted."

Also, they say, "There is no need to 'flush the lines' or run additional water through your pipes. The water currently in your pipes is safe."

North Fort Worth and surrounding suburbs were among the first areas in DFW to be issued boil water alerts early in the week, as power outages began to take their toll on water treatment plants. Arlington, West Fort Worth, and many other communities followed suit. While north Fort Worth's advisory got lifted Friday, many in the area are still boiling water through the weekend.

The first boil notice issued by the City of Fort Worth on Monday, February 15 was expanded early Tuesday morning to include a total of 212,000 Fort Worth residents. Nine cites that buy drinking water from Fort Worth were also notified. Read each city's status here:

The general area affected is bounded on the west by the City of River Oaks, Lake Worth, and Eagle Mountain Lake. The southern boundary is almost to Northside Drive. The eastern boundary is the city limits.

Fort Worth police officer fired for unjustified use of force

A Fort Worth police officer has been terminated following his involvement in a use of force incident. According to a release, Officer Matthew Krueger was let go on December 18, following an investigation into an incident involving someone who was videotaping his actions while he was on duty.

On Sunday, June 23, Fort Worth police officers responded to a hit-and-run collision near 1000 Foch St. The incident involved a suspected intoxicated driver who crashed into another vehicle and a structure before fleeing the scene on foot.

While officers were investigating, a woman approached them and used her cell phone to record their actions. Krueger asked and advised her multiple times to move across the street. When she failed to comply, she was placed under arrest.

During the arrest, Krueger used force to take the woman into custody, resulting in injuries that required medical care at an area hospital.

After being treated, the woman was released from the hospital, booked into jail, and charged with interference with public duties, resisting arrest and/or detention, evading arrest, and making a false alarm or report.

Krueger had been with the department for just under eight years and was assigned to the Patrol Bureau at the time of the incident.

The Fort Worth Police Major Case and Internal Affairs Units began immediate and congruent investigations. Krueger was transferred from Patrol to a unit with no public interaction, pending the outcome of the investigation.

After a review of the Internal Affairs investigation, Krueger’s chain of command determined that the level of force used was unjustified and violated departmental policy. Police Chief Neil Noakes concurred and terminated Krueger’s employment.
