Fort Worth tabbed as site for 2 major esports events in September
Esports will hit Fort Worth in a big way when Dickies Arena plays host to both the 2024 Fortnite Championship Series Global Championship and the 2024 Rocket League Championship Series World Championships in September.
Fortnite is an online game in which players fight using a variety of weapons in a Battle Royale to be the last player (or team) standing. Rocket League is an online game that is a twist on traditional soccer, with players using vehicles to score goals.
The Fortnite Championship will come first on September 7 and 8, with the Rocket League Championships taking place September 13-15.
This is only the second-ever Fortnite Championship Series Global Championship, with the inaugural event taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2023.
Fort Worth previously hosted the Rocket League World Championships in 2022.
The Fortnite Championship will features a prize pool of over $2 million for its duo competition, featuring competitive Fortnite pairs from around the world. The Rocket League Championships, featuring 16 international teams, will have a prize pool of over $1 million.
The tournaments are expected to mean big business for the city, with more than 250 athletes expected to compete and thousands of fans watching in person.
“Dickies Arena is excited and honored to host both the Fortnite Battle Royale Global Championship and the Rocket League World Championship this September,” said Matt Homan, General Manager and President of Trail Drive Management Corp, in a statement. “This is another fantastic opportunity for Fort Worth and Dickies Arena to show fans from around the world what an incredible city and venue we have to experience these esports championships.”
