1. Buzzy Filipino fried chicken chain to open a restaurant in Arlington. A buzzy Filipino chain has come to Arlington: Jollibee, known for its kooky combination of fried chicken and spaghetti, opened its first location in Arlington at 1700 W. Pleasant Ridge Rd., across from the Parks Mall near I-30 and Cooper Road, on Friday, August 16.
2. Miss Hooters beauty pageant to take place in Fort Worth for first time. An international beauty contest will take place in Fort Worth for the first time: It's the 2024 Miss Hooters International Pageant, and it'll go down on Thursday, August 22 at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth. The event is open to the public for the first time since 2021, and tickets are on sale.

3. Fort Worth police officer on duty hit by alleged drunk driver and killed. A Fort Worth police officer died after being hit by a car while in the line of duty. Sgt. Billy Randolph died on the morning of August 12 while working a motor vehicle accident on I-35W near Sycamore School Road. During the course of the cleanup and investigation, he was standing outside his vehicle when another vehicle drove through the accident scene and struck him.
4. Shaq brings the bass to Fort Worth with all-star music festival. Following its debut in Fort Worth in 2023, Shaquille O’Neal’s "Shaq's Bass All Stars Festival" will return to the city, taking place on Saturday, November 16 at Panther Island Pavilion. The festival will feature nearly 20 performers on two different stages, led by Shaq, aka Diesel, himself.
