Weekend Event Planner
These are the 7 best things to do in Fort Worth this weekend
With the Fourth of July falling on a Thursday this year, the number of new non-Independence-Day events taking place around Fort Worth is significantly diminished. In addition to catching up on theater you may have missed or celebrating the holiday, choices include a chamber music festival, screenings of a new film, a comedian, and two concerts.
Below are the best ways to spend your free time this weekend. Want more options? Lucky for you, we have a much longer list of the city's best events.
Wednesday, July 3
Mimir Chamber Music Festival
The Mimir Chamber Music Festival will present a series of concerts by professional musicians and emerging artists. Since its beginning in 1998, Mimir has presented over 200 concerts by Mimir artists, and have mentored some 500 young emerging artists worldwide. All performances, taking place through July 12, are at PepsiCo Recital Hall on the TCU campus except for the July 7 concert, which will be in the Renzo Piano Pavilion at Kimbell Art Museum.
Thursday, July 4
4th of July events
As it should be, Independence Day is full of almost nothing but events celebrating the holiday. For a full list of everything happening in the Fort Worth area, check out this list.
Friday, July 5
Magnolia at the Modern: Fancy Dance
Following her sister's disappearance, Jax (Lily Gladstone), a Native American hustler, kidnaps her 13-year-old niece, Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson), from the child's white grandparents and sets out for the state powwow in hopes of keeping what is left of their family intact. The film will screen six times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Read our full review here.
Improv Arlington presents Karlous Miller
As a comedian/actor, Karlous Miller is most known for being a veteran cast member on MTV’s Wild ‘N Out with Nick Cannon. He is joined by DC Young Fly and Chico Beanis as co-creator and weekly host of the popular 85 South Show, which has been nominated for the iHeart Radio Best Comedy Podcast. He'll perform five times through Sunday at Improv Arlington.
Continuing local theater productions
The lack of new events gives you a chance to see a couple of local theater productions that are both coming to a close this weekend. Circle Theatre'sHundred Days, a folk-punk musical making its regional premiere, will have three more performances through Saturday. And Hip Pocket Theatre's interpretation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream will have three more performances through Sunday.
Jason Boland and the Stragglers in concert
Members of the Red Dirt/Texas Country genre, Jason Boland & The Stragglers are actually a product of Oklahoma, having gotten their start when Boland and drummer Brad Rice met at Oklahoma State University. But they've proved their Texas bona fides since then, with one of their albums named Live and Lit at Billy Bob's Texas. They've gone on to release 10 albums in their career, most recently The Light Saw Me in 2021. They'll play at Billy Bob's Texas.
Saturday, July 6
Little Texas in concert
The '90s were the prime time for country group Little Texas, who got so popular that they put out a greatest hits album after releasing only three albums. You can't say it was without good cause, as only one of their first 13 singles failed to make the top 20 on the Country charts, and seven of them made the top 5, including the eternal "God Blessed Texas." The group, which hasn't released a new album since Young for a Long Time in 2015, will play at Billy Bob's Texas.
