One-of-a-kind yacht rock concert is docking exclusively in Fort Worth

Ambrosia will headline the Yacht Rock Symphony concert in Fort Worth on October 11.
Fans of a certain kind of 1970s music will be in heaven when Yacht Rock Symphony, a concert experience featuring a legendary lineup of classic rock hitmakers, comes to Will Rogers Auditorium on Saturday, October 11.
The concert made its premiere in Columbus, Ohio, in June. Fort Worth is only the second city where the tour is booked.
A release promises that it will be an "extraordinary evening … featuring the original artists who shaped one of rock’s most iconic eras collaborating with a local orchestra," with a set list of top Yacht Rock hits, reimagined in a symphonic setting, starring voices of the era.
Leading the way is the band Ambrosia, which had five Top 40 Billboard hits and five Grammy nominations. They are best known for songs like "How Much I Feel," "Biggest Part of Me," and "You're the Only Woman."
They'll be joined by John Ford Coley of the duo England Dan & John Ford Coley ("I'd Really Love to See You Tonight") and Peter Beckett of Player ("Baby Come Back").
Accompanying the singers will be musicians from the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, who will add a certain flair to the songs to make them more than just "yacht rock."
The concept of pairing yacht rock artists with a symphony is something that has never been done before, says Steve Selak, the show's creator and a music producer who specializes in nostalgic packages.
“Yacht Rock has continued to explode in popularity and I was looking for ways to get into larger and more prestigious venues,” Selak says in a statement. “It’s difficult to find a show that can sell tickets and something audiences haven’t seen before. Everyone I spoke to felt the next logical step was to add an orchestra. Fortunately, our gamble has paid off.”
Coley notes that "so many Yacht Rock songs originally included strings or horns and other instruments on the recordings that touring artists weren’t able to include on the road. To now be able to perform with a fuller sound brings a new dimension to the songs."
Beckett says, “I credit the longevity of these songs to the fact that they’re actually good."
Yacht rock must be in the air in Fort Worth, as Casa Mañana will put on Yacht Rock: It Rocks ... But Not Too Hard as part of their Reid Cabaret Theatre series in June 2026.
Tickets for the concert are now on sale at fwsymphony.org.
