The South Side's Fairmount District, once one of the most prominent neighborhoods in the city, is making an impressive comeback. Beautiful renovations are yielding a fast revitalization in this historic area, a sought after locale for lawyers, doctors, and educators in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The 2016 Fairmount Tour of Historic Homes [https: /historicfairmount.com/index.php/home-tour/] is a testament to the homeowners' hard work and neighborhood pride. Here's a sneak peek at what you can expect on this year's tour, taking place May 7-8 from noon-6 pm (find ticket details at the end of the slideshow). -- 1908 Alston Ave. Built in 1910, this beautiful home is a modified version of a foursquare with an indented far-left entry on the front porch and a beautiful bay window. Like many in the neighborhood, its current owner eyed and admired it for years before being able to purchase it in 1999.
