Discount home décor store Homesense makes Texas debut in Fort Worth
An off-price home goods retailer called Homesense has opened its doors at Fort Worth's Alliance Town Center, marking the chain's debut in Texas.
It's definitely not a local debut for the store's parent corporation, TJX Companies, however. Framingham, Massachusetts-based Homesense is a sibling concept to popular discount home and apparel stores HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls.
In fact, there are both HomeGoods and TJ Maxx stores just two miles away, across Interstate 35 in Presidio Junction. (There's also a Kirkland's in Alliance and an At Home in Presidio.) But judging by the opening weekend crowds at Homesense on Sunday, March 17, far north Fort Worth can't get enough inexpensive home décor.
"You can do a lot of damage in there," warned a shopper as she exited the store pushing a cart filled with big bags and woven baskets.
Shoppers will find a rug emporium; wall art and mirror gallery; an extensive lighting department including chandeliers; patio furniture and decor; seasonal décor; faux florals; entertaining essentials like dishes and serving pieces; packaged gourmet food items, and more. New merchandise shipments arrive from around the world every week, the company says.
Prices are touted as 20-50 percent less than full-price retailers, including department and specialty stores.
“Homesense makes curating your dream space even more attainable with its exceptional selection of incredible, quality pieces sold at great values,” said John Ricciuti, president of HomeGoods and Homesense in the U.S., in a statement. “We are thrilled that those in the Fort Worth community can look to Homesense for a standout shopping experience and unlock unlimited design possibilities in their homes.”
But how's it different from HomeGoods? They explain on their website, "Homesense has more furniture, lighting, rugs, wall art, and dining chairs, plus a General Store department. HomeGoods has more specialty foods, plus Pet and Children's departments."
To mark its debut in the Fort Worth community, Homesense is donating $10,000 to the Tarrant Area Food Bank, the company says.
According to the website, the next Texas Homesense stores will open in San Antonio's The Rim complex and Austin's Lakeline Market. No word yet of additional Dallas-Fort Worth locations on the way.
