Tip of the hat
New Stetson-inspired luxury SUV debuts exclusively in Dallas-Fort Worth
For almost the same price as a home in Dallas-Fort Worth, you could have a brand-new car that combines the prestige and sportiness of a Bentley SUV with the allure and style of a classic Stetson hat.
On September 17, Bentley Dallas rolled out the world’s first Bentley Bentayga Stetson Special Edition during an event at the Stetson factory in Garland. Bentley, a British automaker owned by Volkswagen, brags the new car is the world’s fastest SUV, with a top speed estimated at 190 mph. It’s also said to be one of the world’s priciest, at $246,578.
The car, available exclusively at Bentley Dallas, sells for about $23,300 shy of the August 2019 median price of a single-family home in Dallas-Fort Worth. Put another way, the SUV costs about as much as seven basic Teslas.
But, as they say, you get what you pay for.
“The Bentayga’s rugged luxury is a tailor-made match for Stetson’s unsurpassed quality. The Bentayga Stetson Special Edition combines the best of old-world craftsmanship with American history to create a distinctive and memorable motoring experience,” Ken Schnitzer, chairman of Park Place Dealerships, which owns Bentley Dallas, says in a release.
Inspired by cowboy boots and saddles, the special-edition vehicle features “boot stitching” throughout to produce a one-of-a-kind ride that embodies the hat brand. Tread-plate inserts carved with “Mulliner Stetson” designate each vehicle as a special edition.
The tricked-out car oozes luxury. Interior leather hides are crafted for each vehicle, while the duotone steering wheel sports a burnt-oak center, saddle-leather outer, and chrome elements. The Stetson logo is embroidered in saddle thread on each headrest. Every Bentayga comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Buyers can select one of three exterior colors:
- White sand, a nod to Stetson’s "silverbelly" hat color, made famous by presidents, musicians, and artists.
- Dark cashmere, matching the Stetson Boss of the Plains hat, the first one the company ever sold.
- Onyx, coordinating with the classic Stetson black 100X El Presidente hat.
“The collaboration between Stetson and Bentley combines two legendary heritage names to deliver an unparalleled experience for Western enthusiasts,” echoes Xiao Li Tan, president of Stetson Worldwide.
If you’re itching to get behind the wheel of your own Bentley Bentayga Stetson Special Edition, you’d better act fast. Only one of the SUVs is available now at Bentley Dallas; two more are heading to town in October and November.
