Where to eat in Fort Worth right now: 5 best new restaurants for May
May has arrived, which calls for a new edition of Where to Eat, our monthly roundup listing the very best places to eat right now.
The theme for this month is new: restaurants that are newly opened that are worth checking out. Some of the most popular food groups are represented here including burgers, biscuits, and tacos. Oh and queso. Gotta have queso.
Here's where to eat in Fort Worth right now:
Austin City Taco
Fast-casual taqueria concept in the Cultural District brings to mind Torchy's with its menu of tacos, fries with queso, and house-made salsas in a variety of flavors. Designed by award-winning chef Juan Rodriguez, their taco lineup includes chicken, brisket, shrimp, pork, and two veggie tacos, plus a selection of breakfast tacos that include a migas taco. They're making their own tortillas in flour, corn, blue corn, and a half-and-half that's plain and blue corn together.
Ben's Triple B
New restaurant from chef Ben Merritt (Fixture Kitchen) is drawing in students and neighbors for its menu of biscuits, breakfast, burgers, and full bar. There are a half dozen burgers and loads of biscuit sandwiches, such as Buffalo chicken with blue cheese, plus desserts, such as "cherry pie on a biscuit" with vanilla ice cream, and fried biscuit balls with caramel and cinnamon sugar. You can also build your own, adding meat and cheese.
Dragon House
Chinese restaurant in Southlake is doing authentic mainland Chinese food in an upscale setting — perfect for the Southlake crowd. The menu is expansive, with Szechuan, Shanghainese, Americanized Chinese, dim sum, and even a few Thai items, such as pad Thai. But they're really slaying diners with their hand-pulled noodles and xiao long bao, also known as soup dumplings, sometimes known as juicy dumplings.
Rogers RoundHouse
Newly opened American beer garden, at 1616 Rogers Rd., in a former air-conditioning warehouse business. It features a Tex-Mex and classic American menu with a Wagyu beef burger, chicken nuggets, shakes featuring Curly's Frozen Custard, and brunch with chicken and waffles, and biscuits and gravy. One of their most unique and popular menu items is the Texas Philly with Wagyu beef, grilled onions and peppers, and queso. It has a big selection of beers on tap, a handsome rustic wood interior, colorful murals highlighting Fort Worth and Texas, loads of TVs, and live music.
Walk-On's Bistreaux & Bar
Baton Rouge sports bar co-owned by New Orleans Saints superstar Drew Brees just opened its second DFW location in Arlington, in a former Houlihan's at 401 E Interstate 20. It features Louisiana cuisine and a full bar in a game-day atmosphere. Louisiana classics include po'boys, gumbo, fried alligator, boudin balls, fried oysters, and crawfish etouffee. But the menu also includes pastas, burgers, sandwiches, and wraps. Starters include waffle cheese fries, fried pickles, boneless wings, cheeseburger sliders, spinach-artichoke dip, and venison nachos. Distinctive offerings include a cheeseburger wrap, a crawfish BLT, and a po'boy made with rib eye and Swiss cheese.
