Fort Worth marked safe from nationwide closure of Red Lobster locations
Sad news for fans of Cheddar Bay biscuits and the Admiral’s Feast: Red Lobster, the national seafood restaurant chain, has abruptly closed dozens of its locations nationwide, according to multiple media reports.
The good news for Fort Worth: No locations were shuttered. Fort Worth has been marked safe from the Red Lobster closure debacle. Only two locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area were shut down, both in Dallas, at 10290 E. Technology Blvd. and at 9069 Vantage Point Dr.
Other closures in Texas included three in the greater Houston area (North Houston, Pasadena, and Lake Jackson,), as well as one in San Antonio.
Founded in Florida in 1968, Red Lobster was a restaurant industry pioneer that made seafood accessible to a broad range of diners with dishes like coconut shrimp and shrimp linguini alfredo.
But the chain had declined in recent years due to a range of factors such as corporate mismanagement, according to ABC.
The company has been in financial trouble since last year, when it reported losing $11 million in the third quarter of 2023 due to the unexpected popularity of its Endless Shrimp promotion, which was priced too cheaply.
Bloomberg reported last month that the company was considering a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing to restructure its debt.
Restaurant liquidator TAGeX Brands is auctioning off all of the equipment from almost 50 of the shuttered locations, including both the Lake Jackson and San Antonio outposts. Interested parties should act quickly, as the auctions will close on Thursday, May 16.
Not to despair: Many DFW Red Lobsters remain open, including Arlington, Burleson, Denton, Duncanville, Fort Worth, Frisco, Irving, Lewisville, Mesquite, North Richland Hills, and Plano.
