Rock & Tacos in N. Richland Hills fuses 2 great things: tacos & music
A fun taqueria has opened in North Richland Hills serving tacos and live music. Called Rock & Tacos, it's at 5209 Rufe Snow Dr. in a former Dickey's that closed in 2023.
Rock & Tacos is from Duane Tyree, a colorful entrepreneur who also owns Platinum Music Complex, a rehearsal and recording studio he famously opened in North Richland Hills' Municipal Complex, complete with its own jail.
Tyree has also dabbled in television and paranormal investigation; tacos are just another creative outlet. At Rock & Tacos, he gets to combine two great loves.
“I found myself leaving the studio all the time and stopping for tacos on my way home," Tyree says. "A friend pointed out that I eat tacos a lot. I realized I wanted to pursue my love for tacos and music and join them together.”
True to its name, Rock & Tacos has a total rock theme. They call it "a shrine to music legends" with guitars, iconic album covers, and concert posters, as well as a clever rock theme to the menu.
The 15 tacos, all priced at $4.50, are named for rock stars, and offer a glimpse at Tyree's classic hard rock tastes, as well as his witty sense of humor.
The Eddie Van Halen has chopped beef and onions. The AC/DC has "back in blackened" fish. The Pat Benatar offers a vegetarian option with charred cauliflower and queso fresco; you're invited to "hit it with your best shot."
Sides are basic: street corn, Mexican rice, charro beans, and chips & salsa, plus two dessert tacos: banana pudding tacos and cheesecake tacos.
But live music is a major component. Tyree has built two small stages: One inside in a separate room from the dining room where acoustic acts can perform, and another on the patio, which seats about 50 people.
They're getting ready to launch a music series called Party on the Patio, with a jam and dining specials every Friday, starting August 2. Rock & Tacos does not sell alcohol, but they encourage diners to grab a drink at the Sparks Sports Bar, with whom they share patio space.
Tyree sees it as the perfect fusion of music and food.
"At heart, I am an entertainer," he says. "With Rock & Tacos, we get the best of both worlds; we get great food and entertainment all at the same time.”
