House For Sale
'50s house for sale in south Fort Worth is in impeccable original condition
There's a '50s house for sale in Fort Worth that's not only in original condition, it's also in great shape. That's a combination you don't often see.
The house is located at 4100 S. Henderson St., in south Fort Worth — a few blocks east of Rosemont Middle School, near the intersection of Hemphill Street and Seminary Drive.
Built in 1957, it has three bedrooms, and two bathrooms, both with vintage colored tile, and at 2,072 square feet, is one of the bigger houses in the neighborhood.
It's also located on the corner and sits on a double lot. That's a lot of house on a lot of space.
The house is listed by Kelly Jordan at Briggs Freeman Sotheby's International Realty and is $244,900. If you've looked at prices lately then you know that's pretty cheap by current standards.
The interior has two large living areas and a spacious kitchen, with loads of cabinet space as well as a walk-in pantry.
There's an oversized garage, with plenty of storage space, and a small storage shed out back which could accommodate a shop or small studio.
There's also a huge backyard, with an extra carport or area for outside entertaining. The property is nicely landscaped and has mature trees. The facade is pretty with small set of stairs leading to a house that sits a little elevated from street level.
Those are the facts but it's the unique details and period elements that make this house special (although by contemporary standards, some might use the word "weird").
For example, it has a kindof crazy cut-out between the kitchen and family room that's shaped a little like a giant mushroom.
Those are the original birch cabinets in the kitchen, and it also has a fair amount of wood paneling. Respect the wood. Love the wood.
There's mottled brown-and-beige carpeting throughout that is pretty awful — but the good news is that it covers original hardwood floors which have been protected by the carpet you're so quick to loathe.
There are two full bathrooms, one with a tub, one with a shower; one in a salmon-and-brown combo, the other a pretty two-toned green, with an original gas heater still in great shape.
The two-car garage has separate doors so you don't need to be opening and closing one door every time a car comes or goes.
The house was built by the original owner, who was also the only owner, so it's incredibly well maintained. You wouldn't need to change a thing.
