The National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame presents "Gravity Defied: Trick Riders of The Cowgirl,” which spotlights the daring athleticism and remarkable stories of Cowgirl Hall of Fame Honorees.
The photography exhibition explores the history of trick and fancy riding through photographs from the Museum’s archive featuring Cowgirl Honorees who helped define the sport. From women who became superstars during trick riding’s competitive heyday to those who carried the tradition forward decades later, the exhibition places their athleticism, innovation, and influence at the center of the story.
An extreme sport long before the term existed, trick and fancy riding found a national audience in the United States through Wild West shows. Women were active participants in those shows and became instrumental in the development of the discipline, redefining existing techniques, inventing new tricks and introducing the sport to new audiences.
