The TCU School for Classical & Contemporary Dance will present world-renowned American ballerina Debra Austin in conversation with Keith Saunders. Austin will discuss American ballet history and the reinvigoration of diversity and inclusion into the classical ballet field of America. The conversation kicks off Austin's week-long ballet residency at TCU, which will encompass master classes, community events, Q&A forums, and cross-departmental workshops.

Austin’s extensive career in classical, neo-classical and contemporary ballet has earned her several firsts. She became the first African American New York City Ballet member at just 16 years old, touring the world with the company nine years. She then joined the Zurich Ballet in Switzerland before returning to the States and becoming the first African American Principal Dancer in a major American ballet company, the Pennsylvania Ballet. For the last 18 years she has served as Ballet Master for Carolina Ballet.
