Season Announcement
Puppets, fairies, and cockroaches mingle in Fort Worth theater's 2024 season
This sudden bout of nice weather has us already dreaming of seeing a show at Hip Pocket, the (mostly) al fresco theater located at 1950 Silver Creek Dr. in Fort Worth.
Its 48th season commences in May with five plays, as follows:
May 23-June 2: The season starts with A Twisty Intergalactic Spectacle. Created by Basil Twist, the internationally acclaimed puppeteer, this space-themed play is one-of-a-kind.
June 14-July 2: Love, enchantment, and hilarity ensue under the Texas sky with William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Experience Shakespeare’s classic in Hip Pocket's magical setting, directed by Yvonne Duque-Guerrero and with music by Darrin Kobetich.
August 9-25: The company goes indoors for Raft Project, by Lake Simons and John Dyer. The venue has yet to be named, but the show promises topsy-turvy upon open waters in this newly devised piece.
September 6-29: Based on the Greek play The Suppliants by Aeschylus, Big Love by Charles Mee is a perfect match for Hip Pocket: lyrical, sexy, beautiful, bloody, hilarious, and untamed like a free-flowing poem without rules, yet firmly anchored to a classical structure. Directed by Emily Scott Banks.
October 11-November 3: The season ends with a true classic from the mind of Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis, directed by Christina Cranshaw. "Break free from your stone-built sarcophagus, crawl amongst the carcasses, and watch restless dreams turn to waking nightmares," reads the show's description.
Season subscriptions, known as Hip Passes, and single tickets are not yet on sale. Check Hip Pocket's website for updates and start times for each show.
