Fort Worth rolls out free mobile spay and neuter clinic for pets
Fixed animals are healthier, happier animals.
Fort Worth is hitting the road to care for pets with a new mobile veterinary clinic that will provide free spay and neuter surgeries and other services in neighborhoods across the city.
Fort Worth Animal Care & Control will launch its new Chip & Snip Community Pet Clinic on Saturday, July 18. The mobile trailer is designed to bring free veterinary care - especially spay and neuter services - directly to residents.
In addition to preventing unplanned litters, the city says, spaying and neutering can reduce the risk of certain cancers and may help curb behaviors such as roaming, fighting, marking territory, and aggression. Fixed animals are healthier animals.
The city says the program builds on Fort Worth Animal Care & Control's existing efforts. Since the start of the 2026 fiscal year, they say, the department has performed more than 5,335 spay and neuter surgeries at its shelter facilities.
But more must be done.
The new mobile clinic aims make those services easier to access by bringing them into neighborhoods where they're needed most.
"The Chip & Snip trailer lets us bring these services directly into neighborhoods where the need is the greatest," FWACC assistant director Chris McAllister says in a release. "It’s about partnering with residents right where they live to make responsible pet care easy and accessible."
The Chip & Snip trailer is equipped not only to perform spay and neuter surgeries, but to administer vaccinations and implant microchips, as well.
Again, these procedures you'd pay big bucks for at a veterinarian's office are being offered for free. All procedures will be performed by licensed veterinarians and trained medical staff, the city says.
Here's how it works, per FWACC:
- Register online to request an appointment. (Eligibility is based on your residential ZIP code and the clinic scheduled by FWACC.)
- Bring your pet to the designated Chip & Snip clinic location.
- Drop off your pet at your scheduled appointment time.
- Your pet receives its scheduled services from our veterinary team.
- Pick up your pet later the same day.
The Chip & Snip Community Pet Clinic travels to select Fort Worth neighborhoods throughout the year, they say. "Clinic locations are chosen based on community need, with a focus on areas experiencing higher numbers of stray animals and owner surrenders. New clinic dates and locations will be announced as they become available," says the website.
