Thursday, March 2
Fort Worth Classic Guitar Society presents Virginia Luque: Tribute to Andrés Segovia
The Fort Worth Classic Guitar Society presents Virginia Luque, who plays classical and flamenco music in a Spanish romantic style, combining extraordinary technical virtuosity with beautiful tone and musicianship. The concert, taking place at Kimbell Art Museum, is a tribute to Andrés Segovia, who was considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
UT Arlington Maverick Theatre Company presents West Side Story
If you love the Tony Award-winning West Side Story, you have two different versions to choose from this week. The first is from the University of Texas at Arlington’s Maverick Theatre Company, which uses its college-age cast to portray the story of two youngsters from rival New York City gangs who fall in love, only to have tensions between their respective friends build toward tragedy. The production runs through Sunday at the Maverick Activities Center on the UT Arlington campus.
Friday, March 3
Magnolia at the Modern presents Neruda
In director Pablo Larraín's stunning film, an investigator played by Gael García Bernal launches a search for Pablo Neruda, the Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet who became a fugitive in his own country for his Communist leanings during the 1940s. The movie, which is rated R and is in French and Spanish with English subtitles, screens six times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
First Fridays at the Modern
The first Friday of each month, the Star-Telegram, the Modern, and Cafe Modern team up to present live music and cocktails in the museum's Grand Lobby. Guests can enjoy unique cocktail selections and the opportunity to dine at the Modern by night. Café Modern offers a full menu in the dining room and lighter fare in the Grand Lobby until 8 pm. The event features a performance by Kyle Redd.
Texas Ballet Theater presents Rooster & Scher & Smith
Texas Ballet Theater brings a mixed repertory event to Bass Performance Hall. The performances, taking place through Sunday, feature Christopher Bruce’s Rooster, with music by the Rolling Stones, along with two world premieres created for Texas Ballet Theater by celebrated choreographers Avi Scher and Garrett Smith.
Saturday, March 4
Casa Mañana presents West Side Story
The second local version of the world’s greatest love story takes it to the streets at Casa Mañana Theatre. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet are transported to modern-day New York City, as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs: the American Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. This production runs through March 12.
Fort Worth Contemporary Arts Gallery presents "Rawiya: We Do Not Choose Our Dictators" opening reception
“We Do Not Choose Our Dictators” is a selection of photographic works by Rawiya, a collective focused on human rights and social justice. The photography is a response to and reflection of the daily lives of people affected by political upheaval in the Middle East. At the opening reception, artists Tanya Habjouqa and Tasneem Alsultan will deliver brief comments. Following the opening reception, the exhibit is on display through May 13.

Lone Star Film Society presents Sunday Cinema Series: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
The Lone Star Film Society kicks off its new Sunday Cinema Series at Four Day Weekend Theater with Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Over the next eight months, the series will present 30 films, including Hollywood classics, documentaries, foreign films, independent films, and favorites from previous Lone Star Film Festivals.
Texas Ballet Theater presents Rooster and Scher & Smith at Bass Performance Hall, March 3-5.
