Wynonna Judd keeps The Judds' tour date in Fort Worth this fall

UPDATE 5-19-2022: Wynonna Judd has announced that “The Judds: The Final Tour” will move forward after the tragic passing of her mother and musical partner, Naomi Judd. Martina McBride will kick off select nights with a full set of her own classic hits before Wynonna takes the stage to sing some of her own hits and songs by The Judds. In addition, Wynonna will welcome a selection of special guests on stage each night of the tour, including Brandi Carlile, Faith Hill, Little Big Town, McBride, Ashley McBryde, Trisha Yearwood, and others to be announced. The special guests in Fort Worth have not been announced.

UPDATE 9-8-2022: Trisha Yearwood has been confirmed as the special guest for the Fort Worth concert.

Iconic country music duo The Judds are embarking on their first tour in over a decade, "The Final Tour," which will make a stop at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on Saturday, October 22.

Fort Worth is one of only 10 cities, and the only city in Texas, on the arena tour, which kicks off on September 30 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Martina McBride will join as a special guest on select dates, including Fort Worth.

The Judds, mother-daughter duo Naomi and Wynonna Judd, are one of the most successful acts in country music history. Starting with "Mama He's Crazy" off their 1983 EP Wynonna & Naomi, they had 14 No. 1 hits over the course of the 1980s, including "Why Not Me," "Have Mercy," "I Know Where I'm Going," "Turn It Loose," and "Let Me Tell You About Love."

The Judds will sing their iconic song "Love Can Build a Bridge" on the CMT Music Awards on April 11 with Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame as their background, a nod to the duo’s upcoming 2022 induction into the institution.

“The fans have always been my family of choice," Naomi Judd said in a statement. "I love them dearly, so I'm chompin’ at the bit to belt out our hits and reconnect with them once again. The cherry on top is singing with my beloved, wild and extremely talented daughter… the best singer of any genre, Wynonna!"

Tickets for all dates, including Fort Worth, go on sale to the general public beginning April 15 at the TheJudds.com. Fans can also sign up for pre-sale ticket access at TheJudds.com.

Party City chain to close all stores including 9 in Fort Worth

A chain of stores where the party is always going on is closing down: Party City will close all of its stores and has initiated layoffs, effective immediately. According to CNN, CEO Barry Litwin told corporate employees that Party City has to “commence a winddown process immediately,” and that Friday would be their last day of work for the company.

However, the actual store locations, including those around North Texas, will be open until February 28.

Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, Party City is largest party goods retailer in the U.S. — the go-to destination for every type of celebration, with more than 700 company-owned and franchise store locations across North America selling home decor, candles, balloons, wrapping paper, tableware, bulk candy, baking supplies, and more.

A typical Party City store ranges in size from 10,000 to 12,000 square feet and carries approximately 30,000 items. Halloween accounts for as much as one-quarter of yearly sales, but they celebrate all seasonal holidays, from New Year's Eve to the Fourth of July to Father's Day to Super Bowl Sunday, and offer a wide array of merchandise for birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, wedding and bridal showers, and baby showers.

Party and costume merchandise has become more competitive in recent years, with companies like the budget-focused Spirit Halloween expanding beyond its Halloween pop-ups into “Spirit Christmas” stores, as well as competition from Amazon and other online retailers.

In 2023, the chain filed for bankruptcy, then emerged with a plan that included transitioning into a privately held company and canceling nearly $1 billion in debt. At that time, there were approximately 800 U.S. stores.
