Fun and fundraising
A Dallas-Fort Worth water park chain is partnering with a local nonprofit to slide "fun" into fundraising throughout the summer.
Beginning July 16, all locations of Hawaiian Falls are offering discounted tickets to benefit the charity TeamConnor. Their Splash Out Childhood Cancerinitiative raises funds and awareness to find a cure for childhood cancers.
Now in its eighth year, the fundraiser honors Connor Cruse of Frisco, who lost his four-year battle with neuroblastoma on July 10, 2009. He loved going to Hawaiian Falls in The Colony before and after he got sick, his family says. TeamConnor was founded in 2008.
To participate, tickets for park admission must be purchased through Hawaiian Falls website here, using the discount code TEAMCONNOR19. Tickets are $22 (regular price is $28.99 plus tax), and children age 2 and under are free. Proceeds from sales of these discounted tickets will benefit TeamConnor.
The program runs through September 2.
“Partnering with Hawaiian Falls for the eighth consecutive year makes a huge difference in funding more research for childhood cancer," says Joy Cruse, founder of TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation and Connor’s mom, in a release. "When people purchase tickets for their family and friends through TeamConnor.org, they’re supporting research that could lead to better treatments for kids battling this horrible disease.
"Childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 19 in the United States," she says. "We need better treatments and to keep looking for cures."
In addition to the discounted tickets, on July 17, The Colony location of Hawaiian Falls will honor several families with kids who are currently fighting childhood cancer, survivors, and families who lost their child to cancer. There'll be free tattoos, writing messages with chalk, water games, and line dancing.
Hawaiian Falls has Dallas-Fort Worth locations in Mansfield, Roanoke, Garland, and The Colony. Hours vary by location and day.
