A Roanoke restaurant-bar and live music venue with celebrity ties has closed: ChopShop Live, which opened at 307 S. Oak St, with country music star Randy Rogers behind the wheel, closed its doors November 1, six years after it opened.

Rogers, the lead singer of the Randy Rogers Band, was a co-owner, partnered with the team behind ChopShop Sports Garage, a sports bar chain from Rock Libations Hospitality. It opened in 2018 — their first live venue-combination-sports bar, hosting not only sports action on big-screen TVs but bands on an outdoor stage with a capacity of 1,300.

It operated as two separate venues: live music with picnic tables outside, restaurant with a full menu inside, serving signature items like Trash Can Nachos and The Boss Hog Burger.

It served as a beacon for live music fans, grateful for the opportunity to see acts like Cody Canada, Wade Bowen, William Clark Green, and Randy Rogers. Joshua Babb of Rock Libations said that "having Randy's expertise to guide us along our first music venue … proved to be invaluable."

However, a spokesperson said that Rogers withdrew in early 2024. Rogers has since opened Lost & Found, a new rooftop bar in his homebase of New Braunfels, in September. Rogers is involved in multiple projects including Cheatham St. Warehouse in San Marcos, White Water Amphitheater in New Braunfels, River Rose Boutique with his wife Chelsea, Le Petit Sweet candy shop in New Braunfels, whiskey company Bahnbrëcker, and the Cleburne Rail Roaders minor league baseball team.

ChopShop Live was also a large operation, requiring a high volume of customers in a small town with a mostly family-oriented vibe.

"We fought the good fight, and [our] team gave it 110 percent," a spokesperson said. "Sadly, the times we're in took their toll."

Other ChopShop Sports Garage locations remain open in Las Colinas, McKinney, and Victory Park; a location in Carrollton closed in 2023.
