Lauryn Hill and The Fugees emerge for anniversary with stop in Fort Worth
Ms. Lauryn Hill will celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill with a 17-city worldwide tour, including a stop at Dickies Arena on Monday, October 30.
Joined by the reunited The Fugees, Hill will perform the album in its entirety. The No. 1 album was originally released on August 25, 1998, and remains Hill's lone official album.
The tour will kick off in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 8, continuing for two months through November 9, including a four-city mini-tour in Australia and New Zealand. Fort Worth is the only Texas stop on the tour.
Entered into the Library of Congress in 2015, the album was the first-ever Hip Hop album to receive an Album of the Year Grammy Award. Hill was the first woman to be nominated for 10 Grammy Awards in one year, as well as the the first woman to win five Grammys in one night.
“The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is and was a love song to my parents, my family, my people, my musical and cultural forebears, my teachers, my loves, my Creator," said Hill in a statement. "I wrote love songs and protest songs— (still love songs) about the subjects and interests that inspired and moved me. I was confident that what inspired me would resonate with an audience that had been led to believe that songs of that kind could only live in the past.”
Hill has been making recent appearances at events across the country in celebration of the anniversary year of the album, including at the Hip-Hop 50th Anniversary in New York City and the Roots Picnic festival.
