Labor Day weekend in and around Fort Worth will bring a relatively small number of new events, but there will be something to do every day. Choices include five concerts (including one big star), a filmed version of a Tony-winning musical, a symphonic tribute to Journey, and the final days of a fun outdoor exhibition that's worth the excursion.

Blues/soul musician Danielle Nicole has been making music professionally for a little over 10 years, releasing her debut EP in 2015. Since then, she's released five albums, including the brand-new Fireflies, which came out on August 28. She'll play at Billy Bob's Texas.

Friday, September 4

Magnolia at the Modern: Hadestown: The Musical
You may have seen the national tour of Hadestown when it played at Bass Performance Hall, but this special film presentation captures a live performance in London’s West End, reuniting the five original principals of the Broadway company. Hadestown was a massive hit, winning eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical, and earning the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The film will screen five times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.

Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents Infinity Rising - The Music of Journey
The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents Infinity Rising - The Music of Journey, a symphonic celebration of one of rock’s most legendary bands. Audiences can sing along to hits like “Any Way You Want It” and “Faithfully,” performed by a world-class rock band, vocalists, and full orchestra. There will be performances on Friday and Saturday at Bass Performance Hall.

Country singer Jamey Johnson should be a bigger star than he is at this point in his career. After releasing his first album with a big label, The Dollar, in 2006, he went on to release three top 10 records, including the No. 1 The Guitar Song in 2010. But a dispute with his original label made him fade into the background for a long time until he finally released his sixth album, Midnight Gasoline, in 2024. He'll play at Billy Bob's Texas.

Saturday, September 5

Brandi Carlile in concert
Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile just passed the 20th anniversary of the start of her career, but it's only been in the last 10 or so when she's established herself as one of the greats. She got her first Grammy nomination in 2016, and has gone on to win 11 Grammys. She was also nominated for an Oscar in 2025 for helping to write a song for a documentary about Elton John, with whom she released a collaborative album the same year. She'll play at Dickies Arena in support of her 2025 solo album, Returning to Myself.

Country star Joe Nichols has been crafting hits since his breakout in 2002 with his sophomore album, Man with a Memory. Thanks to songs like "Brokenheartsville," "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off," and "Gimmie That Girl," he's remained at the top of the genre for over 20 years, releasing 11 albums in his career, most recently Honky Tonks & Country Songs in 2024. He'll play at Billy Bob's Texas.

Sunday, September 6

Band of Heathens & The Wilder Blue in concert
Headliner Band of Heathens and special guests The Wilder Blue will perform at the 6th Annual Banding Together for Kids. The event raises funds for Masonic Children & Family Services of Texas, which has helped Texas children in need for over 127 years by providing funding for medical, dental, therapy, rental, and utility assistance, and more. The benefit concert takes place at Billy Bob's Texas.

Monday, September 7

Fort Worth Botanic Garden presents Sean Kenney’s Nature POP! closing day
Monday will be the final day to view Nature POP! at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. The exhibit by acclaimed artist Sean Kenney features more than 40 sculptures crafted from over 800,000 LEGO pieces. It celebrates the beauty of nature through bold, colorful displays that create a striking contrast with the garden's living landscape.
