Weekend Event Planner
These are the 11 best things to do in Fort Worth this weekend
Music dominates the landscape across Fort Worth this weekend. There will be five different concerts, including a big rock band and another band fronted by an Oscar winner. The music extends to a local production of a classic musical and a cabaret-style performance by a Broadway actor. There will also be two funny comedians, a peach festival, and the closings of two art exhibitions.
Below are the best ways to spend your precious free time this weekend. Want more options? Lucky for you, we have a much longer list of the city's best events.
Thursday, July 6
Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters in concert
If you only know Billy Bob Thornton from his acting career, you're missing half the picture. Sure, the Oscar winner continues to churn out quality work on both the big and small screens, but he's equally passionate about his music career with his band, The Boxmasters. They'll play at Tannahill's Tavern & Music Hall in support of their 2022 album, Help...I'm Alive.
Friday, July 7
Artisan Center Theater presents Godspell
In Godspell, a small group of people helps Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a variety of games, storytelling techniques, and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. The production runs through August 12 at Artisan Center Theater in Hurst.
Improv Arlington presents Lavell Crawford
Audiences are becoming increasingly familiar with Lavell Crawford’s giant-sized talent from his numerous television appearances. Crawford gained national exposure on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, leading to his own half-hour standup special on Comedy Central. Crawford is perhaps best known for his recurring role on AMC’s Emmy Award-winning Breaking Bad, which he reprised on several occasions in the prequel series, Better Call Saul. He'll perform eight times through Sunday at Improv Arlington.
Theatre Arlington presents Major Attaway: The Genie's Jukebox
Whether you know him from Disney's Aladdin on Broadway, Orange is the New Black on Netflix, One Piece, Borderlands 3, or his numerous credits as a director and actor at Theatre Arlington, Major Attaway is a star. For two nights only on Friday and Saturday at Theatre Arlington, he'll present his cabaret The Genie's Jukebox, an homage to his record-breaking run as the Genie in Aladdin.
Hyena's presents J.R. Brow
J.R. Brow has opened for performers like Dana Carvey, Ray Romano, Bill Hicks, and Steven Wright. He electrifies audiences with his high energy storytelling and spot-on mimicry. When his guitar comes into the act, the originality peaks with his unique musical prowess. He'll perform four times through Saturday at Hyena's in downtown Fort Worth.
Jon Stork in concert
Country singer Jon Stork has worked the festival circuit and other multi-artist events in Texas for the past few years after releasing his debut EP, In Your Radio, in 2017. After releasing his debut album, Radio Cowboy, in 2019, Stork moved up a level. With two singles in 2022 signaling a possible new album coming soon, he'll play another headlining show at Billy Bob's Texas.
Saturday, July 8
Parker County Peach Festival
The 38th Annual Parker County Peach Festival will feature a bounty of Parker County peaches and more than 200 arts/craft, food, and activity vendors in Historic Downtown Weatherford. Visitors can get their fill of homemade peach ice cream, peach cobbler, peach pie, peach tea, peach smoothies, ice cream topped with fresh peaches, or just plain ol’ juicy peaches. There will also be two entertainment stages featuring performances by local talent, as well as the annual Peach Pedal Bike Ride.
Paramore in concert
The reputation of the rock band Paramore is pretty large for a band that's only had one top 10 song in its history, 2014's "Ain't It Fun." Led by singer Hayley Williams, the band has still managed to do well on the Billboard 200 albums chart, notching four top 10 albums in 18 years, including the new This is Why. They'll play at Dickies Arena.
Steve Earle in concert
For almost 40 years years, Steve Earle has been at or near the top of the Billboard Country album charts on the strength of his bluegrass and rock-infused style. Backed by his band The Dukes, Earle has been a firebrand for much of his career, unafraid to speak his mind when he felt it was warranted. He'll play at Tannahill's Tavern & Music Hall in support of his 2022 album, Jerry Jeff.
Joe Nichols in concert
Country star Joe Nichols has been crafting hits since his breakout in 2002 with his sophomore album, Man with a Memory. Thanks to songs like "Brokenheartsville," "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off," and "Gimmie That Girl," he's remained at the top of the genre for the past 20 years. He'll play at Billy Bob's Texas in support of his new album, Good Day for Living.
Sunday, July 9
Amon Carter Museum of American Art exhibition closings
It's closing day for two exhibitions at the Amon Carter Museum of Art after four months. Christina Fernandez: "Multiple Exposures" is the first extensive survey of work by the Los Angeles-based artist who has spent decades in a rich exploration of migration, labor, gender, her Mexican-American identity, and the unique capacities of the photographic medium itself.
