Price chop
Glenn Beck slashes price of his Westlake mansion to less than $5 million
Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck is trying again to sell his mansion at Westlake’s exclusive Vaquero Club.
Beck listed the nearly 9,000-square-foot property, at 2224 King Fisher Dr., for $4.95 million on December 13 — $1.25 million less than it was offered a year-and-a-half ago. Jeff Watson of Compass Real Estate Texas LLC has the listing.
Beck initially offered the home at $6.2 million in May 2018. Less than two months later, the price dropped to $5.9 million. In February 2019, the mansion went up for sale again, this time for $5.75 million. It’s unclear when the property was most recently pulled from the market.
Whatever the price, it’s clear that Beck is having a hard time selling this home.
“I am putting my home up for sale because I fear this economy,” Beck told his audience in 2018, “as we are headed for trouble, and I don’t want to be sitting with a big huge house.”
His home sale also comes in the wake of widely publicized troubles at Beck’s multimedia conglomerate.
The cornerstone of Beck’s empire is The Blaze, a conservative news outlet with internet, radio, podcast, and video-on-demand offerings. In November, The Hollywood Reporterbroke the news that The Blaze was shutting down its cable TV channel by the end of 2019. A year earlier, The Hollywood Reportersaid Beck’s media outfit was merging with CRTV, another conservative media platform.
The Daily Beastreported in December 2018 that Beck’s media business had been plagued by declines in revenue, online traffic, and paid subscribers, prompting mass layoffs and the CRTV “bailout.”
Beck and his wife, Tania, purchased their 3.5-acre Westlake estate in 2012 for an undisclosed amount, according to Realtor.com. (The home had been listed at $5.25 million.) The year before that, Beck established a multimedia studio in the Dallas area shortly before exiting his hosting gig at the Fox News Channel.
Built in 2004 in the French country style, the Becks’ five-bedroom comes with six full bathrooms and three half-bathrooms, along with a guesthouse that features a living room and en suite bedroom. The master bedroom includes a fireplace, a jetted tub, separate vanities, and walk-in closets.
Interior highlights of the home include a built-in wine cooler, a game room, a study, exposed wood beams, stacked-stone walls, French wide-plank wood floors, and cathedral ceilings.
Among the outdoor amenities are a diving pool, a spa, a fire pit, water features, and a pergola-covered sundeck with golf course views.
