This is how big an apartment Fort Worth renters get for $1,500 in 2024
Good news for local renters: A new apartment analysis by RentCafe has revealed that Fort Worth apartment-dwellers can get a decent-sized place for $1,500 a month.
Fort Worth renters willing to spend $1,500 can get an apartment spanning 918 square feet — a little bigger than the average size of a Fort Worth apartment, which is 873 square feet and would cost $74 less per month. The city boasts the second-largest apartment size for the price tag across all of Dallas-Fort Worth.
The study examined data from RentCafe's sister site, Yardi Matrix, to determine the average size and price per square foot for a $1,500 monthly budget in 200 of the largest American cities.
According to the study's findings, the national average size of an apartment costing $1,500 in rent spans 729 square feet.
For the biggest bang for your buck in North Texas, head to Mesquite, where $1,500 nets the No. 1 largest apartment in Dallas-Fort Worth with a spacious 969 square feet.
Garland falls right behind Mesquite with the same apartment size as Fort Worth – 918 square-feet – for $1,500.
In the national ranking of the largest U.S. cities with the greatest average apartment space, Wichita, Kansas claimed the No. 1 spot with apartments spanning 1,359 square feet. Fort Worth landed at No. 30 nationally, while Mesquite ranked No. 30 in the national comparison of the top 100 small U.S. cities.
North Texas renters may want to consider McKinney, as it recently ranked as the No. 4 best suburb for renters nationwide. RentCafe says the average apartment size in McKinney is 948 square feet for $1,677 a month as of March 2024. If renters wanted to stick to a $1,500 budget, that would net them an 843-square-foot apartment.

Apartment sizes around Texas
For the second year in a row, Austin is the worst offender in Texas with the smallest apartment space for a $1,500 monthly budget. Austin renters must make do with an average apartment size of 759 square feet, putting it at the bottom of the list in the overall analysis of Texas cities, and No. 63 in the national comparison.
Among Texas' other largest cities, Houston has square footage for miles, with $1,500 scoring an apartment that spans 983 square feet. But San Antonio is the most spacious of all, with $1,500 netting a pad that's 1,012 square feet — practically a palace.
