Ground breaks on Westbend Residences in Fort Worth University District

Westbend Residences
Ground has broken on a new residential complex in Fort Worth's University District. Called Westbend Residences, it'll be a 321-unit multifamily community located 1701 S University Dr., slated to open in early 2027, according to a release from mixed-use developer-operator Trademark Property Company.
Situated on 3.5 acres along the Trinity Trails, Westbend Residences will be accessible to Texas Christian University, retail, and dining options, plus outdoor recreation, including public amenities oriented to the trail.
The community will go up on a parcel that was previously home to a Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham, a charmingly modest two-story extended-stay. Out with the old, in with the new.
The new complex with be seven stories tall, with "premium" finishes (not granite I hope), two pools, fitness center, dog spa, and a two-story parking garage. There's also space on the ground floor for a restaurant.
The property will include a new street connection at the traffic light at Collinsworth Street and South University Drive.
Westbend Residences marks the second phase of the Westbend mixed-use community. Trademark redeveloped the first phase in 2016, which includes 281,000 square feet of office and retail space.
The district has a public art program that includes the Love sculpture by Laura Kimpton; works from the Amon Carter photography collection; and murals by local artists.
“Expanding our mix of uses at Westbend allows us to create a walkable neighborhood where residential, office, retail, and public spaces come together to form a true mixed-use community,” says Trademark founder & CEO Terry Montesi in a statement.
Other recent Trademark projects include The Vickery, a multifamily-led mixed-use community overlooking downtown Fort Worth; and the Madeleine, a recently-approved 348-unit project in Dallas' Oak Lawn area.
