The award-winning Impossible Burger keeps getting added to restaurants and stores, with the newest place to get this plant-based burger alternative being your local Sprouts Farmers Market.

According to a release, Impossible Foods made a deal with Sprouts sell its flagship Impossible Burger at more than 350 Sprouts stores in 23 states, including Texas.

Sprouts shoppers can find Impossible Burger in the frozen section in 12-ounce packages for $9.99, or else via curbside pickup and delivery at shop.sprouts.com.

The Impossible Burger was named the top plant-based burger by the New York Times and is the alternative that most convincingly rivals the taste and texture of regular ground beef. Unlike beef, it contains no animal hormones or antibiotics, and is kosher, halal, and gluten-free.

It'll work in any ground meat recipe — tacos, chili, meatballs, egg rolls, gyros, bolognese — and it cooks anywhere: outdoor grill, flat top, Instant Pot, oven, steamer, or sauté pan.

The addition of Sprouts means Impossible Burger will be available in an expanded footprint across the Southwest region and Mountain states.

There are 47 Sprouts stores in Texas, including 23 in the DFW area: Fort Worth, Southlake, Arlington, Hurst, Keller, Flower Mound, Denton, Coppell, Allen, Rowlett, Mesquite, Carrollton, McKinney, Murphy, Plano, Coppell, Dallas, Richardson, and Frisco.

In a statement, Impossible Foods' president Dennis Woodside says that they're responding to customer demand.

"We want to make sure the Impossible Burger is accessible across all types of grocery stores, and that includes Sprouts," Woodside says. "Sprouts is known for healthy, affordable ingredients and convenient store layout, and Sprouts shoppers have been asking for Impossible Burger for months."

Among all healthy grocery chains, Sprouts has been most proactive about innovation, and launched an initiative in early 2020 to increase its inventory of plant-based products.

"Shoppers trust Sprouts to offer an assortment of attribute-driven products, including an increasing number of plant-based items to meet the growing demand," says Sprouts Chief Fresh Merchandising Officer Scott Neal.

Impossible Burger uses 96 percent less land, 87 percent less water, and 89 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to beef from cows. Impossible Burger made its grocery store debut in September 2019, and was sold in only 150 grocery stores as recently as March. It's now available in over 10,000 grocery stores across all 50 states, including Kroger, Tom Thumb, and Albertsons stores in the DFW area, as well as restaurants such as Hopdoddy, Village Burger Bar, Truluck's, BurgerIM, Studio Movie Grill, Starbucks, and Boomer Jack's. It's also available for purchase on Impossible Foods' ecommerce site.
