Revolving Doors
Catch up on these restaurant openings and closures in Fort Worth
In the revolving doors scene of Fort Worth restaurants, some places have opened and others have closed. Incoming includes pizza, desserts, healthy food, and BBQ. Outgoing includes cider, craft beer, and healthy food.
Here's what's opened and closed in Fort Worth:
Locust Cider
Locust Cider Fort Worth, a hard cider taproom located at 710 S. Main St. #100 in the Near Southside neighborhood, closed on December 10 — part of a company-wide closing of several taprooms, an action the owners called "necessary, but also incredibly painful." They started in 2015 with a dream of sharing love for cider in Washington. In 2019, they built a network of taprooms, but the pandemic wiped them out. Seven Locust Cider taprooms remain open in the Pacific NW and Colorado.
Craft & Vine
Restaurant and lounge at 12310 S. Oak St. #300 in downtown Roanoke closed after seven years, almost to the day, as they opened in October 2017. They had an extensive food menu with burgers, BBQ, cocktails, and more than 72 local beers and wines. Craft & Vine’s other North Texas location in Plano’s Shops at Legacy closed on March 8.
Cava Mediterranean Grill
Popular healthy chain opened a location in Saginaw at 1428 N. Old Decatur Rd. #150, along with a location of Five Guys Burger Company at 1428 N. Old Decatur Rd. #100. A post on the City of Saginaw Facebook page encourages citizens to "give a big welcome" and encourages patrons to "Stop by to dine and say hi!" The comments are another story, whether it's complaining about not having enough indie coffee houses, whining about the roads, or criticizing the city manager. Saginaw seems like a tough town to please.
Terry Black's BBQ
BBQ chain with locations in Dallas, Austin, and Lockhart is about to open its eagerly-anticipated Fort Worth location, going up on the site of a former Wendy's at 2926 W. 7th St. A post on Fort Worth Foodies, the reigning source of all Fort Worth restaurant intel, shows a sign posted to the restaurant's front door that indicates the opening date will be December 19. The sign says that "Training is in progress," and that "Terry Black's Fort Worth will open on 12/19 at 10:30 am!"
JoJo Baklava Cafe & Sweets
New dessert shop just opened at 9500 Ray White Rd. #127 in Keller, in the former Yummy Cafe and Sweets shop, where it's doing baklava, pastries, coffee, and more.
Mountain Mike’s Pizza
Rapidly expanding pizza chain from California has opened a new location in Keller, at 1521 Keller Pkwt. The restaurant is owned by Southlake resident and franchisee Paul Sandhu, who plans to open two more Mountain Mike’s restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They're known for their Their signature is their "legendary crispy curly pepperoni," where the pepperoni slices curve up into little cups.
DeVivo Bros. Eatery
Italian restaurant in Keller just reopened after a temporary closure. They closed in early November to execute renovations, bringing new features, updated decor, and improved spaces. They have a fancy new pizza oven, and dinner specials are back such as risotto topped with chicken in a white wine lemon Mediterranean sauce
Barley & Board
Denton brewpub is closing after nearly 10 years. According to a post from the owners, the lease was up and they opted not to renew. B&B brought a level of cosmopolitan cool to Denton, combined with an easygoing vibe that made it a fresh addition when it was opened by a hospitality supergroup in 2015. Alas, they got pummeled by the pandemic; one chef said that "things were never the same after COVID." In 2021, they pared down the menu, although they remained a big magnet and brought lots of patrons and revenue into the Square. Their second location which they opened at Grandscape in 2018 closed in November. Denton will close on January 6.
Fit Plate (formerly Keto Kitchen Creations)
Small chain is closing its location in Keller, after five years. According to a Facebook post, sales were too low. Their last day open will be December 31. Though the Keller storefront is closing, their locations in Plano and southwest Fort Worth will still be open, although they also stated that the Fort Worth location was "on the chopping block" and needs business. "We hope you’ll join us in making these final weeks at Keller special," they said.
