Hara Sushi in Grapevine brings more to the table than sushi

Hara Sushi Grapevine
There’s more on the menu than sushi at a new restaurant in Grapevine: Called Hara Sushi, it's in a small center in front of the Grapevine Mills Mall, taking over the address at 2805 Grapevine Mills Cir. E #104 that was home for more than a decade to Daan Sushi.
Hara Sushi is from owner Chris Cho, a first-time restaurateur whose goal is to please both sushi connoisseurs as well as diners who are new to the world of Japanese cuisine. According to a spokesperson, he chose the location because of its visibility and proximity to Grapevine Mills.
“The area is very diverse,” the spokesperson says. “Plus, the crowd coming from the mall is good here, too."
The menu is extensive — not just sushi and sashimi, but also poke bowls, udon noodles, and Korean bulgogi bowls.
That said, sushi rolls are the star, with nearly 50 options, from simple rolls with tuna and salmon to a big selection of specialty rolls, some raw, some cooked, some fried, and some baked, with combinations featuring crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, and spicy tuna. That includes a little touch of Louisiana with crawfish appearing on items such as the Popcorn Roll, a spicy crabmeat and avocado roll topped with crawfish and Cajun powder. Prices on rolls range from $12 to $15.
Appetizers include favorites like edamame but executed in three versions: regular, spicy, or garlic butter edamame. There are sushi towers, with rice, fish, avocado, and toppings layered in a statuesque tower; fried chicken karaage; dumplings with choice of beef or shrimp; and stuffed mushrooms with crabmeat.
Desserts include hotteok — street food Korean cinnamon pancakes with a cinnamon brown sugar syrup filling.
The restaurant also serves alcohol including wine, beer, cocktails, Korean soju, and Japanese sake. During their daily happy hour, certain drinks are discounted to $5 and $7.
Inside, the restaurant has an elevated atmosphere featuring black chairs and tables, round hanging lights, an open kitchen concept where customers can sit and watch meals being prepared, and a bar.
